The oldest human of our species emerged from the ice of the Ötztal glacier in 1991. His discovery has kept scientists on their toes ever since. During the anniversary summer, “Ötzi” is the focus of exhibitions and festivals, lectures and events.

On this day, Erika and Helmut Simon discover a mummy during a mountain hike from the Similaun hut to the Fineilspitze. The miraculously preserved man from the Stone Age is 5300 years old.
